1910's Great War Era Black Striped Silk and Wool Ladies Walking Suit

$352.98

A mid 1910's ladies black striped silk and wool walking suit, in good condition. The bodice has had restoration work done, and is fully hand relined in antique ivory silk. The exact year of make/style is hard to pin down, but it looks to be a transitional style, still incorporating the decorative self covered buttons from the first half of the 1910’s, but with a shorter jacket and more a-line cut skirt.

There is some splitting to the silk in various sections on both the skirt and jacket as shown, particularly at the shoulders and waistband. The collar has hand stitched embroidery, and the outfit is decorated with a number of self covered buttons.

The jacket has lead weights sewn into the back of the waistband, as shown. The pleated wool peplums are on the sides of the jacket only, with a cutout style back. The skirt is hemmed in black wool, with silk bias binding used to finish edges as the skirt and jacket peplum are unlined.

The tags inside reads Annette Exclusive Styles.

The suit looks to have been custom made, but likely fit a wearer who was a modern size 10-12, with all relevant undergarments accounted for, as the skirt shows no sins of fit alteration.

The shoes and parasol are also available for sale separately, please see our shop for the listings, or contact us for more details.
