Handmade 1740's Style Rococo Style Robe A L'Anglaise Gown And Petticoat Historic Costume Outfit
A historic style handmade Robe a L'anglaise style gown and petticoat, in the mid 18th century style. The dress has been shown over stays/bumroll/panniers to achieve the era's silhouette, the bodice is not boned. The dress has pocket slits and a pleated down fitted back. The design is based on reference material from American Duchess and the Kunstgewerbemuseum in Berlin.
The bodice is closed front, meant to be pinned shut as shown. The lining is cream linen, the outer material is a historically styled vintage Ikea cotton drapery broadcloth. The petticoat is salmon coloured vintage linen drapery fabric.
The dress is historically inspired, so the main seams are machine stitched with some of the outer pleats hand finished, but trim and inner finishes are handstitched, the seams are whipstitched or selvage is left on.
The costume fits a modern size, but can be adjusted for fit as needed with the internal lacing strips.
As shown, the outfit fits a modern size 14-16, and measures 44" bust, 35” waist, hips free as shown, with 14” sleeves including the wing cuffs. The armhole circumference is 20", the bodice is 12.5" across back between the sleeves.
The back of the bodice measures 16" in length from neckline to waist, the bodice center front length is 12" from the neckline to waist. The dress measures 58.5" in length from neck to hem down center back.
The skirt side seam length is 40" in length to account for panniers, with the pocket slits as shown.
The petitcoat fits up to a 35/36" waist, and is 39" in length with a wide hem.
