Handmade 1840's Style Light Green Fern Print Cotton Day Dress with Fan Front Bodice and Cluny Lace Trim
An 1840's early Victorian style handmade printed cotton day dress, with a ruffled hem and a lace trimmed cuff and collar. It is lined with white cotton broadcloth. It closes up the back with hooks and eyes. The trim is antique ivory coloured cotton Cluny lace, exact age unknown.
The seams are pinked, the bodice has a flatlined construction.
The waistband is cartridge pleated with twill tape for reinforcement. The bodice seams are piped, also with cotton broadcloth and cording.
The skirt is unlined and the selvages left intact on the seams. The bodice is shaped with gathering and darts as well as some boning in the front and sides.
The dress is shown with a quilted petticoat for shape. Dresses of this era are best worn with a chemise, corded corset, petticoat etc. to achieve the desired silhouette.
It fits a modern size 14-16 as shown. It measures 38” bust, 33” waist, hips free. The skirt has a 174" hem circumference.
It measures 62.5” in centre back length from nape of neck to hem, and has 22.5” long straight cut sleeves trim included, with slightly dropped shoulders. The centre back is 16" in length from neck to waist.
